Salt electrolysis swimming pool water treatment for automatic treatment and purification of your swimming pool water with salt.

Salt electrolysis is the ideal alternative without chlorine

For people who are looking for an alternative to disinfecting their swimming pool water salt electrolysis fast the first choice after chlorine dosing. There are several ways to disinfect your bath via electrolysis. The most common salt water treatment is an electrolysis in which the salt is added directly to the swimming pool water.

From cheap to professional salt water electrolysis

  • There are simple salt electrolysis systems for disinfecting the swimming pool water for less than 1000 €. These simple systems are usually plug and play. These water treatment systems do not have online water quality monitoring. You can regulate the electrolyser by selecting a higher or lower setting. This method is quite rudimentary. This can sometimes cause problems of corrosion or discoloration of the liner.

ATTENTION! The guarantee of the liner (PVC liner type Alkorplan or coatflex) sometimes expires with some simple systems.

  • The more professional systems measure and monitor the water quality, acidity and redox value online (in the pipeline - continuously). If these are too low or too high, these salt electrolysis devices will dose products or produce chlorine via the electrolysis cell. With these systems it is still necessary to add salt to the pool water.
  • The alternative to swimming pool electrolysis systems with salt water are the systems with a salt container or an electrolyte. This type of water treatment will always work in indoor swimming pools. These pool water treatment systems are also used in public swimming pools.

How does a salt electrolysis work?

The pool is used to dissolve the salt and feed it through the electrolysis cell. It may sound strange to add salt directly to your swimming pool water, but the required amount (average 3-5g/L) is so low that you will barely notice it. Only metals present in the swimming pool will suffer from this, in the form of rust formation. There are also systems that work with LOW SALT CONCENTRATION such as the Aquarite PRO LS (low salt). With this system, the problem of corrosion has been reduced to a minimum.

Another way is to dissolve the salt in a separate compartment and run that solution through an electrolysis cell. The advantage of this is that salt will not end up in the pool water at any time, thus solving the corrosion problem.

It is recommended to combine salt electrolysis with automatic water treatment. This is usually integrated into the electrolysis as standard, but there are systems where this is not the case.

What are the advantages of a salt electrolysis for swimming pool?

  • no dangerous  swimming pool products such as liquid chlorine or acid
  • simple - once salt in the pool no more work
  • cheap - works with salt (keep in mind a higher electricity consumption)
  • gentler on the skin - salt water dries out the skin less than e.g. chlorinated water

Are there any drawbacks?

  • the salt water is corrosive to metals
  • you cannot accurately control cheaper systems
  • measuring probes are more expensive than standard electrodes
  • the best, most performing systems (Ospa chlorozon, Sopra soprazon and the Aprui E) are expensive

Is it easy to maintain?

Buy a salt electrolysis and install ointment? This is possible if you are handy and know something about electricity and chemistry. The manual of the simplest systems are very clear. You can also do the maintenance yourself. You can also contact us for calibration of the probes or any service.

Type of salt electrolysis systems

Nowadays, electrolysis systems & hydrolysis systems have been developed in such a way that they work with low salt contents. We distinguish between three types of systems.

  1. Classic salt electrolysis systems that work with 3.2g/L
  2. Low Salt variants that work with 1.5g/L
  3. Hydrolysis systems that work with < 1g/L
