5 tips for wintering your swimming pool

Prevent frost damage to your swimming pool installation and start up in 1 – 2 – 3 next year. You can do this with our 5 handy tips for wintering your swimming pool. Read along and save yourself a lot of extra cleaning next spring in our short summary.

Tip 1 Hibernate a passive or active swimming pool

Passive pool wintering

You can use the swimming pool hibernate PASSIVE. In concrete terms, this means that you turn the swimming pool installation OFF and let the water level drop below the skimmers. This prevents frost damage to your skimmers.

Active pool wintering

ACTIVE hibernation means that you let the pool installation continue to work but at a lower frequency – 2 x 2h per day. This way you continue to filter and treat the water. With this active hibernation, you can quickly restart your swimming pool the next season.

2nd frost protection tip

Provide frost protection. This Ice Guard swimming pool freeze protection ensures that the circulation pump will circulate continuously if the temperature drops below 5°C. Moving water prevents the skimmers from freezing, but the circulation of the water under the ground (always 9 - 13°C) also "warms up" the water a little bit.

 

Third tip winter net

Install a winter net. This is made of PP (Polypropylene), water permeable and super light (150g/m²). This ensures that you can stretch the winter net nice and tight. A winter net prevents blisters and animals from entering the pool during the winter. Winter nets are usually attached with pickets, tent pegs or floor anchors. Tip 4 wintering product

Add wintering product to your pool water. Overwintering product prevents algae growth and limescale deposits. Add half at closing, add the other half in February next year.

Disconnect your heat pump and tilt the appliance so that ALL water has disappeared from the appliance. Frost damage to a heat pump is a very costly repair! This small action can therefore save you a lot of money and problems. When you passively hibernate, it is best to also empty your filter pump to prevent frost damage in the pre-filter.
