What is a Photometer?

A photometer works based on the brightness in the device. First you take a sample of the water to be tested so that the device has a zero value. Then you have to add reagents to the sample so that the device can observe this reaction. This way you get a very reliable measurement. The disadvantage of this method of measuring is that you have to do everything exactly right. A greasy finger on a cuvette can already influence the measurement.

What is the difference between free chlorine, offered chlorine and total chlorine?

To measure chlorine it is important that you know the difference between free chlorine, combined chlorine and total chlorine. The most important size to measure is the free chlorine. This ensures the oxidation and disinfection of the water.
It bound chlorine are the dirt particles in the water that bind to the free chlorine. In other words, bound chlorine is the pollution load of the water. Combined chlorine does not disinfect the water and can itself be harmful to the water balance.
