How do I turn my pool water into crystal clear pool water. The circulation, filtration, pool water treatment, covering and the dosage of flocculant ensure top pool water quality. Read the advice of our swimming pool specialist here, summarized in a clear blog.
Circulation
For good circulation you should take into account a flow rate of about 1/4 of the volume of your pool. If you have a swimming pool volume of 60m³, you must have a circulation flow rate of 15m³/h. Each suction point can handle a flow rate of approximately 5m³/h – for a flow rate of 15m³/h you therefore need at least 3 suction points (e.g. 2 skimmers and 1 bottom suction).
TIP: ALWAYS provide a bottom suction in your swimming pool. This benefits the circulation of your pool water. After all, better circulation ensures a better distribution of the chemicals (disinfection) of your swimming pool water and faster heating.
Filtration
There are many different options for filtering your pool water. The most well-known are the cartridge filter, sand filter, diathome filter, multilayer filter, glass filter… For private swimming pools, the most accurate filter method is the sand filter. Make sure your FLOW RATE is not higher than 50m³/h/m² (public swimming pools 30m³/h/m²) – somewhat technical, but with the diameter of your filter you can calculate your surface area and together with the flow rate of your pump the flow rate. (e.g. filter is 640mm = 0.32m² – pump = 15m³/h then your flow rate is: 47m³/h/m²).

How SLOWER the flow rate and how FINE the filter material the better the filtration. Love one minimum filter time of 10h/day.
We advise to always place several layers of filter sand in the filter and the SAND BED HEIGHT as high as possible to make. For example, we work with semi-high bed sand filters (75 cm) in public swimming pools high bed sand filters with 1m of sand required.
A swimming pool robot the combination of circulation and filtration
A pool robot provides extra circulation. Usually it has a flow rate of 16m³/h. Because the device moves through the pool, it ensures a lot of circulation.
The robot contains a filter basket, filter cartridge or filter bag. This ensures that the water has extra filtering. The combination of the 2 ensures that the purchase of one of our pool robots is a very good investment.
Water treatment – disinfection of your pool water
An automatic pool water treatment is a MUST HAVE for clear pool water and will give you a lot of pleasure from your pool year after year. The water treatment provides a continuous online measurement of your pool water parameters and adjusts the water accordingly. This ensures a constant healthy and clear water quality. Proper disinfection ensures clear water.
TIP: Send your pH value to ph 7.3 your chlorine value to 0.8 – 1.5ppm or a redox value of 650 – 750mv. A good alternative pool water treatment is one salt electrolysis. These devices are now available with an online measuring station and low salt concentrations. For the absolute top you choose a chlorozone device. These devices are recommended for indoor swimming pools and public swimming pools.
Swimming pool cover – keep the dirt out for clear pool water
First of all, prevent dirt from entering the pool water. A good cover of the swimming pool with a roller shutter or a summer tarpaulin prevents dust, animals, insects, grass, blisters… from ending up in the swimming pool water. All these contaminants are broken down by your chlorine, this one residual products cause cloudy swimming pool water. Keep the pool clean with a pool robot, which, in addition to extra filtering, will also vacuum and create circulation.
TIP: a good cover not only ensures clear water, but you also realize considerable energy savings.
Flocculant – EPO for the sand filter
Finally, I can recommend that you use FLOCCULANT. In public swimming pools, this product is automatically dosed (liquid flocculant) to make the water clear. Flocculant clumps the dissolved particles into filterable particles. As a result, all residual products and impurities are better captured by the sand filter. Flocculant is the EPO for your sand filter (but legal 😉 ). The first flocculants were in powder form. However, this product has fallen out of use due to the cumbersome method of implementation. Flocculation IN the swimming pool is inconvenient and you have to let it settle, vacuum it, etc. The new products are in sachets or tablets for the skimmer basket. These products dissolve slowly and cause coagulation (floc formation) on the sand filter. The Flovil and Flovil Shock are concentrated products with POLYMER to form even bigger and better flakes.
