Through this FAQ we help you with the choice of the swimming pool pump. Which pool pump to install depends on several factors. You can read everything here
Which pool pump to install depends on several factors.
Before installing your pool pump
For the installation or replacement of your filter pump make a well-considered choice.
The pool pump is the largest electric energy guzzler of your pool installation. (Heat with a heat pump, then that is of course the largest consumer)
Which swimming pool pump for a smooth connection to the filter installation
Take into account some PVC work when you replace the pump and provide 2 three-piece couplings at the front and the top of the pump. This way you can disconnect them and easily replace them. Many filter pumps have supplied coupling pieces or hose pillars. If you are replacing the circulation pump of your swimming pool, the simplest method is to purchase exactly the same pump. This makes the exchange easy. You do not need to adjust anything.
There are also a lot of "common" known pumps as well energy efficient pool pumps available.
- You can replace the Hayward Super pump with ==> the Hayward Super Pump USA
- Meanwhile, the Speck Badu 90 (Orange filter pump) ==> exists An Speck Badu 90 ECO VS
- You can replace the Kripsol Koral, Fiberpool or Kripsol KS with ==> the Hayward K FLO VSTD
You can of course replace any swimming pool filter pump with an energy-efficient swimming pool pump with frequency control. Keep in mind that some adjustments to the PVC pool pipes will be required to make the inlet and outlet fit exactly.
The electrical connection of the swimming pool pump
Check if the pool pump has a monophase (220V) or one tri phase pool pump (3x220V) is (What is the difference between Monophase and Triphase?). Our filter pumps for swimming pools are always without cable. Connect the electrical cable from the control box to the circulation pump. This means that you need to provide a 3G 2.5mm² cable for single phase and a 5G 2.5mm² cable for a buoyancy filter pump.
There is a simpler solution for smaller pools and above ground pools. We have filter kits for this type of swimming pool. These are pumps and filters in 1 fully installed. Here is the electrical connection a cable with plug.
Calculate the flow rate of the pool pump
In private swimming pools you pump the pool water around with a flow rate that is 1/4 of the volume of the pool.
This means for a swimming pool of 10 x 4 x 1.5m = volume/4 = 60m³/4 = 15m³/h.
This is the volume that the pump must circulate at a head of +/- 10m (average pressure resistance of a swimming pool installation).
Which swimming pool pump is best for you to select for your swimming pool?
- For smaller volumes and above ground pools: Hayward MAX FLO II or the Hayward Power FLO II pool pump
- Best price/quality larger volumes of built-in swimming pools: Hayward TRI STAR pumps or the Speck Badu Profi Eco VS variable speed pump
- Latest generation top quality – energy efficient – quiet: Hayward Super Pump VS (Variable Speed)
Which pool pump should I choose to save energy?
You will achieve the greatest energy savings on your swimming pool installation with a VS pump. A VS pump or filter pump with Variable Speed is a pump that operates with an adjustable frequency. This means that you can make the pump work slower and faster. At a lower speed, the flow rate is lower, but so is the electrical consumption of the centrifugal pump. There are current ones 3 adjustable speeds:
- speed 1, the circulation speed
- 2nd speed for vacuuming, for example
- booster speed for example for rinsing the sand filter
It electrical consumption usually drops by 2/3 compared to a fixed speed filter pump. For example, if you use € 900 in electricity per year, you will only use € 300 in electricity with an energy-efficient swimming pool pump.
An additional advantage is that it is best to let a frequency-controlled pump work CONTINUOUS. This also ensures much better filtration and a more stable water quality, because the measured values are constantly checked instead of, for example, only 10 hours a day.
What is the advantage of a VS pump (Variable Speed)
Since a 2010 were by Pentair INTELLIFLO swimming pool pumps introduced with variable speed. This causes one drastic reduction in electricity consumption and also for one very quiet operation of the pool installation. The almost continuous circulation of the pool water also ensures that the water remains crystal clear, filtered and treated continuously.
