There are 2 waysn to lower the concentration of cyanuric acid in the pool; 1. no longer use chlorine with cyanuric acid, 2. dilute the swimming pool water.
How can I lower cyanuric acid stabilizer?

The first piece of advice – stop using stabilized chlorine
The first method to lower the cyanuric acid is stop using stabilized chlorine products. Here's an overview:
- Sodium Trichloroisocyanuric Acid Chlorine Tablets 200g
- Sodium Dichloro Isocyanurate Chlorine Granules
DO NOT use stabilized chlorine instead. These unstabilized chlorine products do not contain a UV sunlight stabilizer. Here's an overview:
- HTH chlorine sticks based on calcium hypochlorite
- HTH chlorine granulate based on calcium hypochlorite
- HTH Chlorine Pastilles
- Liquid chlorine – ONLY for automatic dosing
If you use 1 of these last 4 swimming pool chlorine products, you will no longer add extra cyanuric acid to the swimming pool water.
In summary, you can lower cyanuric acid by no standard 200g chlorine tablets more to use. Common chlorine tablets of 200 g that you can generally buy in the trade contain cyanuric acid chlorine stabilizer.
However, chlorine stabilizer remains in solution in the pool water and the chlorine is consumed. At some point, the pool water can turn green due to too much stabilizer. There is too much cyanuric acid in the pool if it exceeds 70ppm. You can easily measure this concentration with Test strips that measure cyanuric acid .
The 2nd method, lowering cyanuric acid by diluting

A second method to lower the concentration of cyanuric acid is the swimming pool water dilute with fresh water.
This can be done by pumping out part of the pool water and adding fresh tap water.
This can also be done over a period backwash daily (rinse sand filter). Every time you rinse the sand filter, water goes to the sewer and you always have to add fresh water.
Use tap water to refill your pool. This is the best and purest water for stable swimming pool water quality. Tap water or the fresh water you add to the pool does NOT contain cyanuric acid.
How much cyanuric acid do I need in my swimming pool

What is the ideal concentration of cyanuric acid
The ideal concentration of UV stabilizer is between 25 grams per 1000 liters and 50 grams per 1000 liters of swimming pool water (25ppm – 50ppm).
When the amount of sunlight stabilizer is higher than 70ppm, this is referred to as overstabilisation. At the moment your pool chlorine blocked and you run the risk of green swimming pool water.

Reducing cyanuric acid by using unstabilized chlorine (e.g. HTH Sticks)
You can stop the further accumulation of chlorine stabilizer by to switch on HTH Sticks or eg with an automatic water treatment – liquid chloriner to dose.
Decreasing or increasing the pH value (acidity) of the swimming pool water will not affect the concentration of cyanuric acid.
KNOWING MORE? What exactly is cyanuric acid?
Is a high concentration of cyanuric acid stabilizer always a problem?
Reducing the cyanuric acid is not always necessary. It is perfectly possible that you will not have any problem for now. However, you will have to add more chlorine to have enough free ACTIVE chlorine in your swimming pool. This free chlorine concentration blocks the cyanuric acid content. Especially during a thunderstorm or during intensive use, the swimming pool water can turn and suddenly become cloudy or green.
